Myopia

Myopia typically progresses in children as they get older because their eyes continue to grow.

Myopia is an eye condition which causes distant objects to appear blurry. It is related to how your child’s eyes are growing – specifically, their eyes are growing too long causing light to focus in front of the retina instead of directly on the retina at the back of the eye.

Why is Myopia a problem?

As the eye continues to grow, the retinal tissue has to stretch. The more myopia you develop the higher the risk for specific eye health and vision issues. For example, a -7.00 myopia has over a 44 times higher risk of developing a retinal detachment compared to someone who has normal vision.
